The DYER 29 Center Console Model
revisits its roots with a versatile
The Anchorage Inc., builders of DYER® Boats are rolling out a new Center Console version of the legendary DYER 29 at the Miami International Boat Show, February 13 - 18, 2003. This new model Dyer will offer a large open cockpit with a cuddy cabin and a Volvo KAMD 300, 285hp electronically controlled inboard diesel.
The 70-year-old family owned boat manufacturer is utilizing the strength of the 29's enviable reputation for sea keeping and reliability; the safety and efficiency of the inboard diesel; and its reputation for high quality workmanship to compete in the popular Center Console market.
The Dyer's graceful and eye pleasing shear line is universally recognized as classic. Bill Dyer, himself an avid fisherman, first introduced the Nick Potter design in 1955 as a sound offshore fishing platform. The new Center Console model to be showcased in Florida will be set up as a fishing boat as well, featuring bolstered coamings, leaning post with integrated rod holders, tee top, cockpit wash down system, deck rod holders and rod racks. She will also feature creature comforts like a fresh water head, teak cockpit sole, transom door and swim platform. The boat will be on display at the Volvo Demonstration Dock in the Sealine Marina and Yachting Center located behind the Marriott Hotel on Biscayne Bay.
This new deck configuration will utilize the Dyer 29's well-known soft, stable, sea kindly ride at all speeds. 29 owners who fish have reported that while the other boats get out first, once the afternoon winds pick up and the seas build from 3' to 4' it is the Dyers that get home first.
While most Center Consoles are powered with outboards, the safety and reliability offered by the inboard Volvo diesel creates a real advantage for this model. There is also fuel efficiency to consider. Dyer owners have consistently provided fuel consumption data as seasonal averages in the 3.5 to 4 gallons per hour range. A benefit most appreciated today.
The new SeaKeyTM offered with this engine package will add a further measure of security and safety. The system keeps track of the boat via satellite utilizing GPS technology. Their response center is manned around the clock.
In keeping with the Dyer philosophy, the Center Console will be offered as a semi-custom boat with plenty of options available. Owners can put together a boat to satisfy their needs, whether that is day cruising, diving or fishing. The boat is available with a number of different power options as well.
At Dyer, the number of boats built each year is necessarily limited to the output of a small group of craftsman. The dedicated goal has been, and is, to produce boats of the highest quality.
